And Now...Something Entirely New

I am overhauling my blog! Please bear with me while I make the necessary changes.

I’m an author and avid (some would say rabid) reader. I'm updating and adding categories for book reviews and generally reorganizing this blog. For those of you who love to read, come back and check out some of the books I’ve read and enjoyed.

Recipe Box: Warm Artichoke Spinach Dip in a Dutch Oven

It's time to think about Thanksgiving and what to prepare for that wonderful feast and the big family gatherings that happen almost without fail. Each year I like to find something new to share with the family until I hit upon a new favorite.

It's one of those rare days in Southern California where there is something wet falling from the sky. I think it's called rain, but since it's been so long since I've seen any. I have my doubts. Since it is actually overcast and somewhat cool outside, it puts me in the mood to bake.

Do you think Auntie Lou would mind if I sneak this one little treat into her recipe box?

If you won't tell, neither will I. Maybe she won't find it.

Halloween is Upon Us!

Mercenary Swordsman
Where has the time gone? I had weeks. Weeks, I tell you! Now Halloween is on Monday and my husband's costume for work isn't complete! Ahh!

Guess what I'll be doing this weekend?

Yep, finishing up his costume. I always try to have it done way before. But, for some reason, we are always putting the final touches on at the last minute and it means a late night every single time.

Thankfully, this year he is going with a previous costume that we are just modifying a bit. It's a take on one of our favorite movies, "The Princess Bride". I made him a Dread Pirate Roberts costume a long time ago. Which we also use for when we go to the Renaissance Faire's.

Here are some others from past years...

Exercise is Not My Forte

Like most people, I find I need to exercise. For many reasons... not just to lose weight. And while I could go on and on about the health benefits of exercise, lets face it, I'm no expert and this is not a health blog. Besides, if you are like me, you have heard it all anyway and still find it hard to make it a priority.

That's where my pal Meara comes in.

When Life Kicks You in the Gut

It's been a rough week already...
Actually, so far, this week has just been a continuation of last weeks bumps and bruises.
But, I wasn't raised to complain about bumps and bruises. In fact, I was raised to stand up, dust myself off and get back on the horse that just bucked me off, and this time, make him do it right.

Fall or Summer?

You decide...
  • It's the middle of October.
  • It's nearly 100 degrees outside today.
  • It was only 70 degrees yesterday.
  • Pumpkin Spice is everywhere.
  • The cats have melted again.
  • The dog still refuses to cool off in water, (but that's a story for another time).
  • Halloween costumes are in process.
  • Ice water anyone?
  • Christmas displays going up around the craft stores.

Auntie Lou's Recipe Box: Autumn Zucchini Bread

I know it has been a little longer than normal since my last post... life just kind of blew up on me. But, I'm back! And I've brought a guest with me.

In my last post I mentioned bringing Auntie Lou along to share a recipe. I am happy to say she has agreed to join us! Welcome Auntie Lou!

Auntie Lou: Well, thank you sweetheart. I've never done this sort of thing before you know.

Me: That's all right Auntie Lou! We are happy to have you and are so very excited for you to share the Apple Oatmeal Ginger Snap recipe you've been working on!

Auntie Lou: Oh, I won't be sharing that recipe today. It's not ready yet and it's too hot to be fussing with it right now. Let's make something else.
